Initial consultation: analysis of your particular malocclusion

In an initial consultation, we analyse your particular malocclusion and discuss your wishes regarding your orthodontic treatment.

At your request, we generate patient documentation including photos, X-ray images and your personal patient file, which are essential for serious treatment planning. In our first session, we will ideally produce a 3D scan of your teeth, which only takes a few minutes. We use state-of-the-art equipment for the 3D scan, which eliminates the need for a conventional dental cast made from plaster. Then comes the planning stage when, as specialists for the correction of malocclusion, we analyse the 3D data and combine it with our many years of experience in the application of transparent aligners. The digital data from your teeth and our specific instructions regarding the treatment plan are then sent to Invisalign, who calculate the ideal tooth movement and the necessary number of aligners according to our planning requirements.

Second consultation: treatment planning using virtual 3D animations of your teeth

Just one week later, we offer a second consultation in our practice in Zurich to show you how your malocclusion can be corrected with Invisalign and what costs arise for treatment with the transparent aligners.

With the visualisation software ClinCheck, it is possible to view the entire course of treatment virtually on screen by means of 3D animations. This allows you to easily comprehend which treatment steps move your teeth over time and how many aligners will be necessary to achieve your final tooth position. In this planning stage, we can also take into account any individual requirements and ensure these are incorporated in the treatment plan. The production order for the Invisalign aligners is only confirmed when you are satisfied with the treatment plan that we have developed together and the cost estimate.

Start of treatment: application of Invisalign transparent aligners

In the first session, we prepare all the necessary steps so that the transparent aligners can be applied according to your individual treatment plan.

The first step involves fixing small attachments to the surface of your teeth, which are invisible from the outside and temporary until the end of your treatment. These enable the desired tooth movement. We put in the first aligner in and explain to you the best way to handle and clean it, and how long you should ideally wear it. You then receive several more aligners that you change yourself at specific intervals following a clear timetable. After just a short period of time wearing them, you’ll notice that your teeth are moving.

Check-up sessions: reviewing treatment progress with professional teeth cleaning

Depending on the complexity of the desired tooth movements, two to five check-up sessions are normally necessary during the whole treatment, each lasting an average of only 15 to 30 minutes.

This allows us to check whether the treatment is developing according to our plans. During the course of the treatment, we can also prepare what are known as refinement phase correction aligners that further refine the end result. At each check-up session, you receive your new set of aligners that you again change yourself at the defined intervals. Every session also offers you the opportunity of professional teeth cleaning as required free of charge.

End of treatment: stabilising the teeth and bleaching

The treatment ends with the stabilisation of the new tooth position. Bleaching is only carried out when you are 100 percent satisfied with the end result and your final tooth position.

As specialists in teeth straightening, you benefit from our expertise and many years of experience in the application of transparent aligners – especially in terms of follow-up. As a result of the orthodontic treatment they have undergone, your teeth will have been loosened in a controlled way in order to move them into the desired position. The teeth must now be further supported in their final position until they are sufficiently stabilised. In most cases we attach a wire retainer to the inside of the teeth, which is therefore invisible on the outside, to stabilise the teeth and guarantee the end result. With this final retention stage, we guarantee that the end result you have achieved remains stable as the years go by. To brighten your teeth, we give you a bleaching paste at the end that you apply in your final aligner and wear for some time. This means that you end up not only with a new, perfect tooth position, but a radiant smile with white teeth.

FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions

Invisalign is a brand of aligners that are almost invisible. They have no metal as fixed braces and are custom-made for your teeth.

Invisalign is the brand name of a manufacturer of aligners (transparent and removable plastic splints/braces). Invisalign is an almost invisible tooth correction brace.

You need several trays from the initial position to the final result. The number of required braces varies according to each case. If there’s a more pronounced tooth misalignment, the patient will need more splints to achieve the goal.

You need to change the trays after one or two weeks. Most patients are given 4 to 5 braces to take home, which they then replace according to individual instructions. Therefore, a visit to the orthodontist is only necessary every 6 to 10 weeks.

There is no general answer to this question. Depending on the extent of the tooth misalignment, the number of aligners to achieve the desired tooth position varies. For more details, contact us so that we can schedule an appointment in our practice in Zurich.

We can’t answer this question without an initial consultation. The costs vary according to each patient’s tooth misalignment, treatment duration, and the number of splints. Prices range between CHF 2000-8000, including the subsequent holding phase after the treatment.

Compared to fixed braces, Invisalign braces are significantly the cheapest method in our practice in Zurich.

No, you’re never too old. Orthodontic treatment is possible at any age but must be adapted to the patient’s age, depending on the extent of the tooth and jaw malposition.

Invisalign for children is possible, but not recommended until all permanent teeth (approx. 13 years) are grown.

Aligners are the same as transparent plastic splints. There are different suppliers; the largest and most experienced supplier worldwide is Invisalign, the system we use in our practice. They are removable and cover all your teeth.

Often adult patients come to our practice with teeth shifted in the front area. In most cases, this is because no retainer was attached after the treatment was completed or the retainer was removed later on, and thus the teeth moved.

An increase in crowding/tooth nesting in the anterior region is physiological and increases with age. In such cases, we recommend Invisalign.

The most critical aspect of orthodontic treatment is not primarily the choice of braces, but serious planning in advance. In addition to the initial consultation and the clinical examination, braces treatments should be planned with the help of the necessary documents (tooth models, x-rays, and photos of the teeth and face) to achieve a result aesthetically and functionally satisfactory.

The ideal orthodontic treatment is carried out individually and according to the patient’s wishes. You should choose a certified specialist dentist for orthodontics (CH) to take care of your smile and make sure it’s aligned.

The start and course of orthodontic treatments depend on the position of the teeth and jaws. We recommend an initial examination at the age of 7 to 8 years old. An early check-up with the orthodontist gives clarity about the right time for possible treatment.
